Hiking at Capo Testa

Capo Testa, a peninsula in the northeastern Sardinia, full of beautiful nature. Let´s have a look at a place, where you will definitely get lost and will do more hiking than your maps tell you.

Nestled in the picturesque region of northern Sardinia, Capo Testa stands as a true gem along the coastline. This breathtaking destination, with its majestic rock formations, crystal-clear waters, and stunning landscapes, has captivated the hearts of travelers from around the world. Whether you are seeking tranquility, natural wonders, or simply a place to unwind and soak in the beauty of nature, Capo Testa offers an unforgettable experience

Capo Testa and how to get there

Capo Testa can be reached either by car or a bus. You can choose between two trails, the one being at the beginning and the other one near the lighthouse. The trails are not exactly marked, so between all the stones you will probably get lost. Just to be clear, you need proper shoes, my Converse ones didn´t survive the trip. Right at the beginning of the whole peninsula, you will have a look at a beach called Spiaggia Zia Columba, which is a beautiful beach with a view at Corsica. Clear water and nice coast, it is a place to be after the hiking at Capo Testa.

To get to Capo Testa by bus, it is best to start from the town of Santa Teresa Gallura. In the center of the town, there is a bus station from where you can head towards Capo Testa. There are regular bus connections that will take you there. Please check the current schedule either on-site or on the transport company’s website. The journey takes approximately 15-20 minutes, during which you can enjoy the scenic views of the surrounding countryside

The number one goal will be THE Capo Testa which is a “rock” from which there is a nice view. You should get up, be careful though, it gets really windy there. Another attraction is Grotta la Tana di Lu Maccioni, which you can find in the gallery below. It is hard to describe what it is.

Valle della Luna

There are small hidden beaches, one of the most famous and favourite ones are Spiaggia di Cala Spinosa and Valle Della Luna. The last one is the only one you can legally camp on, however, I believe noone really cares if you camp on another one or not. There is a totem and it is not even that crowded you would expect to be. The whole Capo Testa can be walked through in one day, but take a lot of water with you as there is no possibility to buy one except in the city.

If you don´t feel like hiking, Valle Della Luna will be your place to stay. You can even swim a bit to some stones in the sea and enjoy another view and see Capo Testa from a different point of view. Be careful, as I said before it is windy, and the swimming back to the beach can be quite challenging (from my personal experience speaking).

Valle della Luna is a fascinating location situated in the north of Sardinia. This place, also known as the Moon Valley, is a unique combination of rock formations, caves, and erosion phenomena that give the impression of being on the surface of the Moon. Valle della Luna is surrounded by beautiful nature and offers visitors an unforgettable experience. Explore the maze-like rocky formations, admire the breathtaking views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, and uncover the secrets of this unique place. Visit Valle della Luna and embark on an adventurous journey through Sardinia’s “Moon Surface”.
