Garden at 120 in London

Garden at 120 in London, my new favourite place. As you probably know, I’ve been to London a few times and I now live here. More about London’s hidden places in this article but today we’re focusing on one gem I can’t get enough of.  We will look at an alternative to Sky Garden, a great place called Garden at 120. No booking necessary, visit for free – just show up and enjoy a beautiful view from a lovely tall skyscraper.

Garden at 120 tickets and price

The rooftop garden called Garden at 120 is located in 120 Fenchurch St in central London, not far from the Sky Garden. You don’t need to book a ticket in advance and it is free to visit, although you may have to queue. You can stay on top as long as you wish. Of course, there is also a restaurant if you needed it. These gardens on the are interesting as unlike the already mentioned Sky Gardens, they are opened. Therefore, if it rains, I wouldn’t recommend it. They are also great as you can walk around the entire circuit. And you can see one of the most famous skyscrapers at your fingertips – the famous Gherkin.

Garden at 120: review

Speaking of the view, you won’t get as good of a view of central London as you could from the London Eye but the view here is still truly magnificent. It is mainly because of the skyscrapers that are all around you. A little further away is the London Bridge, which will take you back to the older and ‘British’ London. Ten out of ten for me, I definitely recommend it. There are also benches, so if you bring something to eat, this is definitely one of the better places to eat.

I wonder why it isn’t as touristy but I’m certainly not complaining. I don’t really enjoy crowded tourist London anymore, so I’m glad I found a new lovely place.

Of course, you don’t have to believe me that the visit is worth it, but maybe the photos will convince you! So this is the Garden at 120:

Garden at 120: the facts

The Garden at 120 opened on February 15, 2019. It is located atop the Fen Court office building at 120 Fenchurch Street in London. It was designed by German landscape architect Latz + Partner, in collaboration with Eric Parry Architects.  The garden is part of the Fen Court development, which was initially planned in 2008, revised in 2011, and eventually completed in 2019. It replaced a block of smaller buildings with a single larger structure.

It is considered the City of London’s largest public rooftop space, offering 360-degree views of the city from 15 stories up. The garden features 85 Italian wisteria trees, over 30 fruit trees, and a 200-foot-long flowing water feature. The planting was designed to provide seasonal interest and create an intimate space as the plants mature.

The project aimed to create a publicly accessible roof garden that would serve as a retreat for office workers, visitors, and local residents. It was part of a broader initiative to increase green spaces and public viewing areas in the City of London.

The garden’s development aligns with the City of London’s urban planning goals, as outlined in their “City Plan 2036,” which encourages more economically inclusive and environmentally friendly developments. The Garden at 120 complements other public viewing spaces in the City, such as the Sky Garden at 20 Fenchurch Street, contributing to London’s growing number of free public spaces atop skyscrapers.
